If anything, though, it seems at this stage as if truth is a matter of perception, and there are multiple perceptions. The clumsy coupling of human beings is simply a biological paraphrase of this truth. We learn more about Pursewarden loosely based on Wyndham Lewis.
Durrell makes his designs very apparent.

He is giving the story depth. The novel ends with a brief interlude relating to Clea, who is as enigmatic as ever. What I love about this balthaza is the way it fills in some of the details missing in Justine, and gives the reader an entirely new perspective on the characters and events.

Durrell also has Darley doubt his version of events, not to add a level of cheap unreliability but to make him human. I found myself wondering at Lawdence imagination as he created so many surprising similes and metaphors.

The bulk of the novel is taken baothazar with these notes. Baltazar greatest difference between the two novels is therefore the quietly ruminative aspect of Balthazar. For the vitality, colour and humour of the writing took me on my own journey of reminiscence.

Finishing Balthazar in many ways feels like never having read Justine to begin with; or perhaps that I didn’t really read it dureell. Is nothing new Flashback However, the events that occur in this volume retroactively shape the narrator’s perception and memories of the past: More treasures await us.
